Trip Introduction:
The Upper Mustang trek takes you into a remote part of the Trans-Himalayan mountains, where Tibetan culture has had a big influence.
This high desert area, known as Upper Mustang, stretches from the Tibetan border down to Kagbeni. You'll explore ancient monasteries, caves, local tribes, and the beautiful natural scenery. Your journey starts in the deepest gorge in the world, the Kaligandaki region, and moves up into the highest parts of the Lo-Mangthang Valley. Along the way, you'll walk through a barren landscape with few trees, climb steep rocky paths, and enjoy wide views of famous peaks like Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and others. The trek goes through high mountains, passes, glaciers, and alpine valleys. For centuries, the region has been isolated, so its culture, lifestyle, and traditions have stayed the same until now. Houses in Mustang are usually made of stone and sun-dried mud bricks. The city wall and the four-story palace in Lo-Manthang are some of the most beautiful buildings in the area. Another popular attraction is the Tiji Festival, which is influenced by Tibetan Buddhism and happens at the end of the dry season, usually in late winter or early spring. The people of Mustang, called Mustagi, have a unique way of living that surprises many outsiders. In their culture, all the brothers in a family marry the same woman, a practice known as polyandry.
The Mustang region is also known as the Last Forbidden Kingdom, because it was closed to outsiders until the Nepal government opened it in October 1991.
The people of Mustang call themselves Lobas, and they have their own leader, Jigme Palbar Bista. After Nepal became a republic in 2007, the government removed his royal title, but the people still respect him as their leader. Bista also meets with visitors when they ask. There are strict rules about getting a special permit from the immigration department to protect their traditions and environment. The Upper Mustang trek starts from Jomsom and goes to Kagbeni, which is the main entrance to the Upper Mustang region. You'll follow the banks of the Kaligandaki River upstream to reach Lo-Mangthang, the capital of Upper Mustang.

Pokhara City Tour:
Devi’s Fall -
Devi’s Fall is a well-known tourist spot in Pokhara.
It is also called Patale Chhango, which means an underground waterfall. The waterfall is named after a Swiss lady named Ms. Devi. In 1961, while she was swimming near the Fewa Dam with her husband, the dam suddenly overflowed and swept her into a deep gorge, where she died. Since then, the waterfall has been named Devi’s Fall. It is a beautiful waterfall located just 2 kilometers south of the Pokhara airport. You can reach it by city buses or taxis.
Gupteswor Cave -
Opposite Devi’s Fall, there is a beautiful cave.
The cave is large and requires good preparation to explore. It is also a popular place of worship. There is a natural image of Lord Shiva inside the cave. Many people visit this cave daily. Steps have been built with enough lighting to enter the cave. There is a small tunnel behind the Shiva image that connects the cave to Devi’s Fall. Walking through this tunnel takes about 10 minutes and offers a unique view of the waterfall from below. The tunnel is an adventurous part of the cave, so visitors need to be careful while going through it.
Mahendra Cave -
Mahendra Cave is another natural wonder in Pokhara.
It has not been completely explored. Visitors are advised to bring a torch or a guide. The cave management committee can provide a torch or a guide if needed. The cave is named after the late King Mahendra and is located about 9 kilometers north of the airport. City buses and taxis are regularly available to reach the cave. There is another cave nearby called Bat’s Cave or ChamereGupha.
Bindabasini Temple -
This is a wonderful and very popular pilgrimage site located on a small hill 4 kilometers north of the airport.
Bindabasini is considered a Shakti Pitha of goddess Bhagabati. The temple area is like a park and is ideal for sightseeing. There are other nearby temples, including one dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Tibetan Refugee Camp -
There are three Tibetan refugee camps in Pokhara.
One is 2 kilometers south of the airport near Devi’s Fall at Chhorepatan, the second is in Prithwichowk, and the third is 7 kilometers north of the airport in Hemja. These camps are worth visiting to learn about Tibetan culture, traditions, and lifestyle. There are also handicraft centers within the camps.
Buddhist Monastery -
This is also called Nyeshang Monastery and was established in 1960 by Manangi Buddhists.
It is located at Matepani, about 4 kilometers east of the airport. It is built on a small hill and offers a nice view of Pokhara city and the surrounding mountains.
Seti River -
Seti River is another mysterious natural wonder in Pokhara.
It starts from the Machhapuchre glacier and flows through the city. The river has a dramatic rush before disappearing into a deep gorge at Bagar. The gorge is narrow but very deep, in some places over 60 meters. KI Sing Bridge, Mahendrapool, and Prithvichowk are the main places to see the underground river and listen to its roaring sound. Surprisingly, even during the rainy season, the river does not block the narrow gorge.
