About Trip:

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.” -Jack Kerouac

Standing tall at 7,246 meters, Putha Hiunchuli sits at the western end of the Dhaulagiri II range and is also known as Dhaulagiri VII. Ranked as the 95th highest mountain in the world, it was first successfully climbed by J.O.M. Roberts from Great Britain and Ang Nyima Sherpa from Nepal. Putha Hiunchuli has become a popular choice for climbers seeking a technically less demanding peak to begin their high-altitude mountaineering journey.

Located in Dolpa, often referred to as the “Wild West” of Nepal, the mountain is mentioned in Peter Matthiessen’s renowned book The Snow Leopard. This region remains one of the most remote and rarely explored areas of the country. Although the Putha Hiunchuli Expedition is not technically difficult, it offers an exciting and rewarding experience, combining breathtaking Himalayan views with the serene beauty of untouched nature.

The expedition takes adventurers through rolling hills, traditional villages, and diverse vegetation. Along the way, trekkers can interact with the warm and welcoming locals, whose hospitality makes every visitor feel at home. The route also features Buddhist shrines and sacred sites that add cultural depth to the journey. Because of the mountain’s remoteness, camping is the main form of accommodation, with teahouses being simple but friendly.

The Putha Hiunchuli climb usually involves three camps, with the highest situated at around 6,500 meters. This expedition is ideal for mountaineers seeking a moderately challenging 7,000-meter peak and serves as excellent preparation for future climbs above 8,000 meters. At Himalayan Traverse Adventure, we have designed this expedition for those eager to experience the spirit of adventure, challenge themselves, and build confidence for even greater Himalayan summits
